Poster produced by London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to advertise the excellent service passengers can expect from LNER waiters in the dining restaurant carriages. The poster reads, 'Discretion in mixing coctails and servig crusted port - Regard for our passengers' eupeptic welfare - These are the qualities that distinguish the LNER waiter'. Artwork by Austin Cooper (1890-1964), a Canadian who studied art in Cardiff and Arbroath. He began his career as a commercial artist in Montreal, but returned to London in 1922 and designed posters for LNER, Indian State Railways and London Transport. His first show was held at the London Gallery in 1948. Dimensions: 1016 mm x 635 mm.

Central London Railway Advertising poster. The image shows a woman dressed in green, who is purchasing a train ticket. Behind her is a poster printed 'Central London Railway Cool in Summer Warm in Winter 2d Any Distance'. The line - subsequently referred to as the 'Twopenny Tube' -initially provided a cross-London link between Bank and Shepherd's Bush.

Poster produced for Southern Railway (SR) to advertise the naming ceremony of the new 'West Country' clas locomotive, the 'Dorchester', which was performed by Councillor H G Longman, the Mayor of Dorchester, at Dorchester Station on 23 September 1948. Artwork by Leslie Carr, who painted marine, architectural and river scenes and who also designed posters for London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) and British Railways (BR). Poster produced for the London Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) and MacBrayne's Steamers, advertising cruises on the Caledonian Canalin the Scottish Highlands. The image shows monks walking in the grounds of a monastery or abbey, with water in the foreground and mountains and fields in the background. Built as a ship canal by Thomas Telford (1757-1834), the Caledonian Canal was later used by small cargo boats and pleasure craft. Artwork by Tom Gilfillan. Posters have been used for hundreds of years to reach the general public with motives as simple as advertising, right through to their use as powerful vehicles of protest and propaganda. This poster, an early advertisement for Nestle's milk, is by Swiss artist Theophile Steinlen. It shows a seated little girl drinking milk from a bowl while three cats look up expectantly.

'For a limited period, we're offering a Young Persons Railcard to people who are older. (Sorry Gary, not that much older.)' British Rail poster advertising the extension of the Young Persons Railcard to 24-25-year-olds. Gary Glitter (born Paul Francis Gadd in 1944) became famous as the singer in the glam rock Glitter Band during the 1970s. In 1997 he took his computer to be mended. Staff called police after finding pornographic images of children on the hard drive. Glitter served a prison sentence and when released moved to Cuba and then Cambodia.
