1950s were a decade of tremendous change in Britain and elsewhere. When rationing ended people soon realised that they wanted the same kinds of consumer goods that were already being enjoyed in America and with that demand the market responded by filling the shops with the clothes and household items that men and women both desired and had the means to acquire.
The word teenager first entered the language and Britain's youth were excited by and attracted to the cars, bikes, and music seen in films and television shows emanating from America, but Britain had its own influence on the decade and produced all kinds of goods for the home market and export. Britain boomed and the good times were back.
